Rare Prussian Variety

Prussia, one of the German states, issued a series of three stamps featuring King William IV in April 1857. They were on a solid background on unwatermarked paper, and comprised of three values – 1sgr rose, 2sgr blue and 3sgr orange respectively.

Several distinct plate flaws can be found on these stamps. By far the most important and eye-catching, is the DIAGONAL WHITE LINE THROUGH 'FREIMARKE' (in German, "diagonaler weisser Strich durch FREIMARKE", Michel 7 II), which occurs on part of the issue of the 2sgr value.
