The message includes '...there are about forty thousands diggers on the field in Port Phillip is supposed to be the richest in the world... we were led by others who were deceived themselves as to the place being a rich gold field... very high rents have rose 50 percent some things two or three hundred percent... our once quiet city is now become a scene of dissipation and bloodshed...'
