ITALIAN STATES - SARDINIA 1854-556 ESSAYS or PROOFS of unknown origin, similar to second and third Sardinian issues, 3 strips of 3 'stamps' each, one similar to Sardinia 20 c blue SG 10 (Sass. 5) but in much darker colour and embossed with the 5 cent. value, another one similar to the 40 c. SG 18 (Sass. 9) but in yellow instead of brick red, the third one embossed on tin foil paper in simile-gold colour with 5 cent value. The first and third strips show three individual imprints of the punch, the second one apparently cut out from a large sheet.  All ungummed, two strips with diagonal crease. (9 'stamps')
