Olympics on Stamps

 

From the set issued by Greece in 1896 commemorating the First International Olympic Games sports, sporting events, personalities and achievements have been a popular and attractive topic amongst philatelists. My personal favourite is the Canadian 1982 Terry Fox Marathon of Hope stamp depicting that ‘hard as nails’ one- legged athlete attempting to run across his entire country although many of my fellow countrymen might opt for the GB 1966 “England Winners” issue! Some collectors might prefer Winter sports and filling their albums with skiers and skaters, others may prefer the Summer Olympics with classical discus throwers or the perhaps the most modern addition of them all, golf.
