Lots for Chile Stamps

Chilean stamps have a rich and interesting history that dates back to the mid-19th century. The first postage stamp issued in Chile was the 5 centavos stamp in 1853. This stamp featured the image of a condor, the national bird of Chile, and was printed in blue ink.

In the following years, several other stamps were issued with different designs and denominations. Many of these early stamps featured the portraits of famous Chilean figures, such as General Bernardo O'Higgins, who led Chile to independence from Spain.

During the early 20th century, Chilean stamps became more colourful and ornate, with intricate designs featuring landscapes, buildings, and important events in Chilean history. In 1940, a series of stamps was issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chilean postal service.

One of the most famous Chilean stamps is the "Chilean Antarctic Territory" stamp, which was issued in 1947. This stamp features a map of the Antarctic region and was the first stamp to be issued by any country that depicted the continent.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Chilean stamps continued to feature a wide range of designs, including images of famous Chilean writers and artists, as well as natural landmarks and historic events.

Today, Chilean stamps are still popular among collectors around the world, and new stamps continue to be issued regularly. In recent years, many of these stamps have featured images of Chilean flora and fauna, as well as important cultural figures and landmarks.

Philatelic postscript: Chile's first stamps were issued in 1853, produced by De La Rue in London.
