How our auctions work

It couldn't be easier to take part in our auctions. All you need to do is register and verify your email address (a very quick and easy process) and you can start bidding immediately. If you would like to register now, click here

We hold TWO types of sales.

OUR MAIL BID SALES are held each week and we do not have a room of bidders like a public auction but instead only accept bids by mail, email, fax, telephone or via this website. At the sale close time the highest bid is reduced to one bid step above the next highest bid, or to the reserve price and all lots are covered by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Lots sold in our Mail Bid Sales are subject to a buyers premium of 17%. Check out our Mail Bid Sale frequently asked questions.

OUR PUBLIC AUCTIONS are held in Knutsford several times each year and the lots are shown on this site 2 or 3 weeks before the sale. Cheshire Stamp Auctions is a traditional public auction with an auctioneer wielding a gavel and bidders participating in the room, live on the Internet or by placing bids with us or an agent before the auction begins. Unlike our Mail Bid Sales the lots do not carry a satisfaction guarantee. Lots sold in our Public Auctions are subject to a buyers premium of 20%. Check out our Public Auction frequently asked questions.
