NEPAL - 1881 TO 1930 CLASSIC STAMPS OF NEPAL - AN IMPORTANT SPECIALIZED COLLECTION. An amazing collection of the imperforate and pin- perforated stamps of the first two designs of Nepal (the smaller Crown and Kukris type and the taller Bow and Arrow and Kukris type). The collection of mint / unused and used stamps has been expertly arranged by value, then by shade (of which there are numerous spectacular examples) and then settings as per the Hellrigl / Vignola "The Classic Stamps of Nepal" book published by the Nepal and Tibet Study Circle. Replete with single stamps, pairs, strips, blocks and complete sheets much use has been made of the vast amount of material here to sort and identify the printings from this absorbing and fascinating area. There are undoubtedly many elusive and rare items hidden throughout this collection, the values have been arranged by setting number, and then sorted by shade as per the H&V listings, there are many tete-beche pairs seen throughout with all values to the 4a green pair (1889-98, setting 8), the 'pre-telegraph' issues prior to 1917 also display a good array of different cancellations plus many interesting varieties such as multiples with missing cliches & other items such as the 1929-30 4a green block 4 including the heavily impressed cliche at pos. 56 from setting 11, errors include the 1917 1s pale emerald error of colour from setting 27 PLUS SO MUCH MORE. The collection begins with the European paper 1881 pin perf 1a blues (2, unused), 4a greens (2 unused), imperf 1a blues (1 unused, 5 used), 2a purple unused & 4a green (1 unused); the 1886-89 imperf native paper clear impression 1a blues (18, chiefly from settings 4, 7 & 8), 2a violets (33, chiefly from settings 4 & 6), 4a greens (3, all setting 3), the later impression 1889-98 printings with 1a blues (35, between settings 9 and 12 incl tete-beche pair), 2a violets (15, settings 7 - 9) & 4a greens (18, settings 4 - 8 incl tete- beche pair); and onwards the collection gets increasingly comprehensive with the 1898-1907 blurred printings on native paper imperf 1a blues (35, incl tete- beche pair), 2a violets / greys / lilacs (90+, incl tete- beche pairs) & 4a greens (32), the pin- perfs with 1a blues (8), 2a violets / lavenders / purples (15) & 4a greens (8); the 1899-1907 ½a blacks form a lovely collection (46, including imperf & pin-perf tete- beche pairs); 1901-1907 recut frame 1a blue European paper imperfs (2, used), native paper imperf 1a blues (60, with many tete- beche pairs), also several pin- perf examples; the 1917-1930 Telegraphic Period forms a spectacular collection of around 2000 stamps rich in beautiful shades, also many tete-beche pairs (or inverted cliches in larger blocks), many delightful multiples from pairs, strips & blocks 4 up to complete sheets (7) etc; finally the 1 anna new design of 1928-1930 (possibly issued during 1927) collection of around 230 stamps including complete sheets (3), a trial pin- perf block 4, and a spectacular range of shades. This is an important collection of almost entirely 4- margined attractive stamps carefully built and identified to a high standard, probably one of the best individual collections of these fascinating stamps to be offered as one. Highly recommended (2600+ stamps)
