Like the other Windward Islands, Grenada was under control of the British GPO in London, especially for overseas mail, and British stamps were introduced in 1858.

Grenada was granted responsible government in 1951, ministerial government and then associated statehood in 1967. It became independent within the Commonwealth on 7 December 1974. A left-wing government became established and there was an internal revolt in November 1983, which was followed by invasion by US troops. The occupying force left early in 1984 and no special stamps were issued. However, mail from American forces can be recognized by special Army P0 numbers.

FIRST STAMPS 29 December 1973

Group of islands south of Grenada, the largest of which is Carriacou. Used the stamps of Grenada until 1973.
