Became a British colony on 30 September 1885 until it was annexed to Cape Colony on 16 November 1895.


In 1885-6 mail was carried by runner or border police. PAs were opened at Banks Drift, Kuruman, Poedomoe, Setlagloi (1886), Palachwe (1888), Macloustie (1890), Vryburg Station and Keimoes (1891).


Used stamps of Cape of Good Hope from 16 November 1895 (while British Bechuanaland stamps continued in use in Bechuanaland Protectorate).

CURRENCY

Until 1961, British.
From 14 February 1961, South African.




From June 1890 to 1897 used stamps of British Bechuanaland (with which its postal administration was amalgamated in 1890-5). Further separate issues from 1897. All stamps withdrawn 29 September 1966.
