Belize



FIRST STAMPS ISSUED June 1973.


CURRENCY

1973, 100 cents = 1 dollar.



Formerly British Honduras, changed its name in 1973. First stamps released in the colony on 11 June 1973 but available in London on 1 June.


Became independent member of the Commonwealth in 1981. Britain has retained a military presence in the territory against threatened invasion from Guatemala. British Forces' P0 is in operation.


Cayes of Belize

Islands off the coast of Belize which are part of that territory. Issued stamps in 1984 which were sponsored by a stamp dealer. They had little postal usage.
