  • GREAT BRITAIN - 1840 EARLIEST STAMPED MOURNING COVER. 1840 (1 Dec) env with black mourning border, sent from Bodmin to Swansea bearing 1d black 'JK' just into at upper left, personal signature handstamp alongside & tied by red Maltese Cross with Bodmin datestamp on reverse. We believe this to be the earliest known stamped black- edged mourning cover.
