Queensland Stamps

Queensland started out as an area of New South Wales, but became a separate Colony in 1859 - using stamps of New South Wales. In 1860, the first Queensland Stamps were issued featuring the Queen Victoria “Chalon” portrait types. Up to 1866 these Queensland Chalon stamps were issued in values up to 1s, then in 1866 a 5s stamp was introduced, and then in 1882 the first set of “High Values” was produced with values from 2s 6d to £1. In 1900 - with the outbreak of the Boer War - a pair of Queensland stamps was issued for the “Patriotic Fund”.
