After English
buccaneers had ousted Dutch settlers in 1666-72, British possession of the 36
eastern islands of the archipelago was confirmed by the Treaty of Utrecht
(1713). Part of the Leeward Islands until 1956.
The PO was controlled from London
until 1860. |

Individual stamps for the colony
were replaced by the general issue for Leeward Islands in 1890. In 1903
separate issues were resumed and were used concurrently with those of the
Leeward Islands until 1956.
The group had its own Legislative
Council until 18 April 1967 when ministerial government was
introduced.
