Most northerly of
the Cook Islands group. It was proclaimed a New Zealand dependency and
administered as part of the' Cook Islands from 1901.
Postal History There
was no issue of stamps for the island when it became a dependency so the stamps
of Cook Islands were used until the first special issue in 1902. The island
continued to use overprinted stamps until 1932 when the Cook Islands issues
were reintroduced. |

The northern Cook Islands began to
issue their own stamps again in 1973 and since then Penrhyn has used issues
inscribed 'Penrhyn Northern Cook Islands'. It still remains a New Zealand
dependency.
