1861, sterling.
A British possession since 1628. Captured by the French in 1782 but returned to British control by the Treaty of Versailles in 1783.

Nevis issued its own stamps until 31 October 1890 when the general issue for the Leeward Islands (q.v.) was released. Nevis was merged with St Christopher (St Kitts) in 1903. (For issues from 1903-79 see St Christopher).

Nevis as a dependency of St Christopher issued its own stamps again in June 1980.
