FIRST STAMPS inscribed
KENYA AND UGANDA 1 November 1922.
On becoming a
colony on 23 July 1920 the East Africa Protectorate was renamed Kenya. After an
experimental service in 1927 between Sudan and Lake Victoria had failed, the
first regular airmail service (weekly) to East Africa was opened in
February/March 1931, branching at Alexandria from the Imperial Airways route to
India. This terminated at Mwanza (Tanganyika) until a Christmas proving flight
of 1931 was followed in 1932 by a regular service through to South Africa.
