Anguilla

FIRST SEPARATE STAMPS 4 September 1967.
First settled 1650 and later administered by St Christopher (see above). Having expelled the St Kitts police on 30 May 1967, Anguilla declared independence by referendum in July. Granted limited self-government on 12 February 1976 and remains a Dependent Territory of the United Kingdom.

Postal History
A St Kitts' sub-office on Anguilla was supplied with an A12 duplex canceller inscribed AN in 1900 (use not so far recorded). PO was opened at The Valley in 1904; in 1920 it appears to have been located at Crocus Hill. In 1927-31 there were sub-POs at The Forest, East End, The Road, and Blowing Point, replaced later by a motor TPO.

Used stamps of St Kitts-Nevis from 1904. In July-August 1967, during dispute with St Kitts, routed mail through US Virgin Islands.

Anguilla P0 recognized by St Kitts 7 July 1969.
